The Mystery

The Mystery
So what is this Age of Grace, this Administration of the Mystery, this time in which we live? What is so special about it? What sets this administration apart from all the others? Corinthians has some intriguing information.
1 Corinthians 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect [mature]: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
The princes of this world refers to the god of this world and his devil spirits. We don't speak their horseshit, like climate change and homosexuality, because the wisdom of this world comes to nothing.
1 Corinthians 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
Here we find a reference to the mystery, often referred to as the great mystery or the hidden. A mystery is something that is hidden. If something is hidden, we don't know about its existence. From this we also learn that the mystery was ordained by God for our glory, it was for our benefit.
1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Had the god of this world and his devil spirits known the mystery, they would not have murdered Jesus Christ. They didn't know anything about it because it was hidden. God kept the mystery a secret. No one knew anything about it, not even the god of this world. No one knew anything about it until God revealed the mystery to the apostle Paul.
Romans 16:25,26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Peter refers to the Administration of the Mystery, the age of Grace in one of his epistles.
1 Peter 1:10,11 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched [exereunaō] diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
This Greek word exereunaō is only used once in the bible. Thayer defines it as to search out diligently, while Bullinger defines it as to explore, to search diligently. As it is only used once in the bible, we really need to look at ancient Greek literature to get a taste for the word, and there we find it used in reference to dogs sniffing out game. Dogs are used to flush out birds such as grouse and pheasant. The dogs sniff around and follow scent until they flush the birds out. That's this word exereunaō.
The old testament prophets, such as Moses, Elijah, Jeremiah and Isaiah, sniffed through the scriptures on the scent of this hidden mystery. They searched the scriptures diligently and prophesied of it, knowing there was something between the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow. They knew there was something missing and they searched diligently through the old testament scriptures to try to flush it out. However, they didn't find it because it was hidden. Peter tells us that in addition to searching they also enquired about it, they asked God about it. Here's the record of Moses doing just that.
Exodus 33:18,21-23 And he [Moses] said, I beseech thee [God], shew me thy glory.
And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
The back parts of God here refers to the understanding of the old testament scriptures, while his face refers to the hidden time period of the grace administration which Moses knew was sandwiched between the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow. Moses knew there was something hidden and asked God to reveal it to him, but God told him that knowledge was not available. In the context of the mystery being hidden, look what Corinthians says about it.
1 Corinthians 2:8,9 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
The knowledge of the mystery was not seen by any eye, it was not heard of by any ear, in fact it never even entered into the wildest imaginations of man's heart. The revelation of the mystery, the revealing of what it actually is, was something Jesus Christ discussed with his disciples.
John 16:12,13 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Howbeit when he [it], the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Jesus Christ told his disciples that the spirit of truth was coming and that when it came, it would guide them into the all truth. The spirit of truth is a reference to the gift of holy spirit which came on the day of Pentecost. This prophecy regarding the all truth was fulfilled when God revealed the mystery to the apostle Paul. Before God revealed it to Paul, it was not available to know about it because it was a mystery, it was hidden. Even angels wanted to look into it.
1 Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed [the mystery] ... which things the angels desire to look into.
So what is the mystery? Well, we know that if the devil and his ruling spirits had known about it, they would not have murdered Jesus Christ. So whatever it is, it must be something astonishing. As the mystery has now been revealed in the all truth given by revelation to the apostle Paul, let's discover what it is. Moses and all the other old testament prophets couldn't find it, but it's there for us to discover.
Ephesians 3:2-4 If ye have heard of the dispensation [oikonomia - administration] of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge [sunesis] in the mystery of Christ)
The revelation of the administration of the grace of God was given to Paul, which he mentioned previously in few words back in Romans 16 which we've already looked at. It is only by reading Paul's epistles that the understanding of the mystery comes. You can read the old testament scriptures exhaustively and you will never find the mystery in them. Why? Because it was hidden from old testament eyes. God had to keep it a secret so the devil wouldn't know of his plans. Had the devil suspected anything about it, he would not have crucified Jesus Christ.
This word knowledge, sunesis in the Greek, is defined by Thayer as a running together, a flowing together with, and it was used in Greek literature of the confluence of two rivers, the place where two rivers joined and flowed together. As we read Paul's epistles with a background understanding of the old testament scriptures, knowledge will flow together in our minds as the two meet.
Ephesians 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
The knowledge of the mystery was not made known to anyone before this administration. The old testament prophets searched diligently for it, but it was hidden, it was a secret, it was a mystery. God revealed it to Paul and here it is written in Ephesians.
Ephesians 3:6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
This is what the mystery is, a concise definition of it, but it encompasses everything within the gift of holy spirit and what it means to us. To be fellowheirs with Christ, of the same body, and partakers of the promise encompasses being born again, having the seed of God born within us, having the gift of holy spirit, having eternal life. It is everything being God's child means. It is the ability to walk by the spirit with Christ as our head. In this administration it is available to become a new creation, a child of the creator with his spiritual incorruptible seed born inside us. And it is not just exclusively available to Judeans, it is also available to Gentiles, to anyone anywhere on earth regardless of ethnic, cultural, religious, or educational background.
Ephesians 3:7,8 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable [untraceable] riches of Christ;
The mystery was unsearchable, untraceable, untrackable through the old testament, but it was revealed to Paul, and he revealed that information to us in his epistles which make up the all truth spoken of by Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:25-27 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation [administration] of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
It is the Christ in you, the Christ in me that was hidden, and of which the devil suspected nothing. In the old testament, men and women had no spirit, they were dead. In this administration, men and women can be raised from the dead with power to operate the gift of holy spirit, walk with Christ as their head, and raise more people from the dead.
Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Every time we get someone born again, we raise them from the dead. These are the greater works that Jesus Christ referred to back in John 14:12. We really can do greater works than Jesus Christ did. Jesus Christ could not raise anyone from the dead and give them eternal life. We can.
When the devil and his spirits orchestrated the murder of Jesus Christ they had no idea what was coming. If they'd had even an inkling, they would not have crucified him. When Jesus Christ was alive and had the full measure of the spirit that was available then, he could only be in one place at one time. Now, in this Age of Grace, the Administration of the Mystery, everyone who is born again has Christ in them. The god of this world would rather have had Jesus Christ the son of God on earth by himself than have you and me walking around raising people from the dead. Man, the power and authority we have if we only knew it.

The Fall of Man

The Fall of Man
So, we have a smashed and trashed heavens and earth, God puts it all back together again, and everything is wonderful. Adam and Eve are living in paradise, it is all sunshine and laughter, birds twittering away and happy days. Okay, what happened?
Without understanding the differences between body, soul, and spirit, nothing in the bible will ever make much sense so we will look at that now. Thessalonians weaves these three parts together, and tells us they make up the whole man.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If something is whole, then there is nothing missing. If something is missing, then it is not whole. Body, soul and spirit make up a whole man. If man were missing any of these three parts, he would not be whole. Now, are body, soul and spirit synonymous? Do they mean the same thing? No, they do not. Apples are not oranges, monkeys are not cows, bodies are not souls. Easy to understand? Of course it is. Now use that same logic regarding soul and spirit - they are not the same thing. Consider this from Isaiah:
Isaiah 43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
With reference to man, God says in Isaiah that he created man, he formed him, and he made him. Formed, made, and created are all translated from different Hebrew words. Are these words synonymous? Not if language has any rules. These words do not mean the same thing. God uses these words in Isaiah with accuracy and precision.
Formed is the Hebrew word yatsar, which means to fashion. This word is used in the bible to describe how a potter fashions or forms a pot from a lump of clay.
Made is the Hebrew word asah, which is a very general term for to do or to make. You make dinner, you do your work, you make a noise - that's this very general word, asah, to do or to make something.
Created is the Hebrew word barah, which means to bring into existence something that does not exist in any state or form. Contrary to most dictionaries, man has never created anything. Man can invent, fashion, produce, and manufacture all sorts of things, but only God can create, only God can bring into existence something that does not exist in any state or form.
Everyone can easily understand that body is not soul, but spirit is not soul either, and it is this confusion regarding soul and spirit which has muddied the clarity of God's word in the holy spirit field. Which part of man was formed? Which part of man was made? Which part of man was created? Let's deal with the easy option first:
Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed [yatsar] man of the dust of the ground . . .
Formed is our Hebrew word yatsar. Which part of man did God form? The body, obviously. The dust of the earth refers to everything in our bodies. We all developed from ingredients that originated from the earth, the dust of the ground. Our bodies do not just magic out of nothing, they come from the earth.
The same is true of the plant kingdom. If you plant a tree in a bucket of earth, when the tree is grown, the bucket still has the same amount of earth in it. So where did the tree come from? It came from water in the ground and carbon in the atmosphere. Water and carbon dioxide are broken down through photosynthesis into oxygen and carbohydrates. It all comes from the earth. When we were developing in the womb, what did our bodies grow from? From the food our mothers ate which came from the earth. Therefore, biblically, we can tie formed and body together. Now what about soul?
Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became [asah - was made] a living soul.
Living soul in Hebrew is nephesh chai, nephesh being the word for soul, chai the word for life. It was in breathing that man became, or was made, asah, a living soul. Our soul is who we are - our character, our emotions, our heart, our ambitions, our inner being, that which is housed within our bodies, that which gives life to our bodies. Again, this isn't so hard to understand. It is in breathing that we have soul, and it is in breathing, in having soul, that our bodies have life. When we eat, nutrients are transported around our bodies in our blood streams to the cells where they are needed. As we breathe, our blood circulates and gives life to our bodies. It's beautiful how they work together. Without breath, we have no life, no soul.
Now, what about spirit?
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Created is the Hebrew word barah, to bring into existence something which does not exist in any state or form. To see the astonishing accuracy of God's word regarding these words, check out the usage of create in verse 21 regarding soul.
Genesis 1:21
And God created [barah] great whales, and every living creature [nephesh - soul] that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
It says God created every living creature [nephesh - soul] in the seas, like whales and dolphins. Why did the translators not translate nephesh as soul here instead of creature? I don't know, but the point is, soul life did not exist anywhere in the universe at this time, so God had to create it out of nothing. If it existed, God would not have had to create it. Therefore, we can safely conclude that at the time of Adam and Eve, just a few thousand years ago, there was no breath life anywhere in the universe. In other words, less than 10,000 years ago there were no breathing aliens on any planets, in any solar system, in any galaxy anywhere. Soul life, breath life, just did not exist. If it did, God would not have had to create it in Genesis. When God breathed soul life into man later, soul life already existed in animals, which is why he did not have to create it again. Soul life already existed, so he just had to make it, to do it, and that is what he did and man became or was made, asah, a living soul, nephesh chai. The bible is astonishingly accurate and precise in its usage of words. Now for spirit.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
What is God's image? Well, he does not have a body and soul like us, that's for sure. And another thing, we don't have to guess either, God's word tells us.
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
God is spirit. That is what he is, that is his image. So what part of man did God create? Body? No, that was formed. Soul? No, that was made. Spirit? Yes! God's image is spirit, and man was created in God's image. God has neither body nor soul, so it was spirit that God created at this point. Man was now a three part being - body, soul, and spirit, he was a whole man. This basic understanding of what man was made of is rather important, as we shall see.
God formed, made, and created Adam, he was a three-part being of body, soul, and spirit. He lived in perfect harmony with God in a perfect world. Man was given dominion over the earth. Man was Lord of the earth as God intended him to be.
Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Although man was the Lord of the Earth, a position bestowed on him by God, there were conditions to his continuing in that position of authority.
Genesis 2:16,17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
The knowledge of good and evil here is better understood from the Greek word translated knowledge from the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the old testament. It is from the Greek word ginōskō, which means to know experientially, to know by experience. Man had no experiential knowledge of the difference between good and evil. However, that does not mean man was ignorant of evil. Quite the contrary, Adam and Eve were fully instructed on what was good and what was evil. Genesis 2:16 and 17 clearly document that God instructed Adam and his wife not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They were educated in what was right and what was wrong. They were also fully conscious of the consequences for disobedience. They knew the word, they were fully educated in that category of life.
To eat of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, in this context, was to do evil, to experience it. It is one thing to know what evil is because you have been taught about it, and quite another to know what it is because you have done it. At this point, Adam and Eve had not done anything wrong, they had not committed any evil, and, therefore, had no concept of guilt or any of the other consequences that result from it. To them, evil was something on the other side of the fence, something they knew existed, but it was not something they had ever experienced. That was all about to change.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
The serpent is a figurative reference to the devil, who has many names and titles, such as satan and the god of this world. Why has he many names and titles? Well, I also have many names and titles. For example, I have my family name. To my parents I am a son. I am also an author and photographer. These names and titles describe specific aspects of my life. I may be a son, but I am not a son to anyone but my parents. That particular title describes a specific relationship between my parents and me, no one else. Similarly, all the names and titles of the devil describe differing aspects and functions in how he operates and relates to others.
Here in Genesis, the devil is referred to as the serpent, which is a term emphasising his extraordinary craftiness and seductive slyness. Note that the word also tells us that he was more subtle than any beast of the field which God had made. That includes Gabriel, Michael and the rest of the angels. The only way we can live safe from the devil is to put all our trust in God. Adam and Eve were taught the word and they knew the consequences for disobedience. Once we know the word, we are to live it if we are to live lives which are more than abundant with God's hedge of protection around us.
The serpent uses cunning and stealth to lure us away from God's protection, hiding his devices within that which looks appealing, like hooks within bait. Bait is real food. The devil offers real food, but it has hooks stuck in it designed to take your life. For example, emotions make excellent bait. There is nothing wrong with emotion, but the devil can certainly stick hooks in them to catch you.
The way of life, the way of holiness, God's way on earth, can be likened to a river.
Psalm 46:4,5 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
Psalm 36:7,8 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
Psalm 65:9
Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.
The river of God teems with abundance, and is fresh and alive. However, it flows through the spiritual wilderness of the world, and the devil stalks its banks armed with a dazzling array of baits and lures, seeking whom he may catch and devour. The word makes us wise, and teaches us how to recognise the devil's methods. Adam and Eve had been taught all this, very clearly and succinctly. They were taught the word.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
The devil first approached Eve with a question. This is remarkable and gives us information on how the enemy operates. Any general in any army knows how valuable good intelligence is. The devil instils questions and doubts regarding the word we have been taught. Fascinating stuff. The devil knew Eve had been taught the word, and he approached her with what appeared to be an appealing question regarding it. He probed her defences. If we are not clear on the word, these approaches soon grow into far more serious problems.
Genesis 3:2
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Wait a minute! Is that what God said?
Genesis 2:16
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Eve quoted her scripture retemory, but unfortunately she wasn't accurate. She omitted the word freely. If we omit a word from the word, do we have the word left? No, we do not. What we have is private interpretation. Eve thought she knew the word, but she was wrong. When it comes to rightly dividing God's word, it is imperative that we take great care with every word or we will have nothing but problems. Eve continued:
Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Wait a minute! Is that what God said?
Genesis 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
God said nothing about not touching the tree. Quite the contrary:
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
God told man to dress and to keep the garden, and you cannot dress and keep gardens unless you touch the things growing in them. Not only did Eve omit a word from the word, now she has added words to the word. Eve thinks she knows the word, but she is hazy on the details. What we think the word says is of little value unless we are accurate on the details.
Eve finished with lest ye die. God said thou shalt surely die. Eve turned an absolute into a possibility. She omitted a word, added words, and finally changed the word. Eve was sincere, but sincerity is no guarantee of anything. Now watch what happens.
Genesis 3:4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
The devil lied and contradicted God's word. That is his nature. He is the antithesis of everything the true God is. God is light, the devil is darkness. God tells us the truth through his word, the devil is a liar. God provides a more abundant life, the devil steals, kills, and destroys.
God told Adam and Eve they would surely die, while the devil told Eve she would not surely die. Whose words are you going to believe? The words of God or the words of the devil? If Eve had the slightest inkling of what was in the devil's heart, she would not have been having that conversation. She was seduced by the approach, the gentle, appealing nature of the words, and the manner in which they were presented. The devil has an extensive library of seductive arguments. Just look at this one.
Genesis 3:5
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
To be as gods? Knowing what the gods know? Secret knowledge from the gods? That's some bait. Eve swallowed it, and her husband went right along with her.
Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The consequences for man's disobedience were catastrophic. Man died, that very day, just as God had warned them. At first glance, Genesis 5:5 would appear to contradict this, but this is entirely due to misunderstanding body, soul, and spirit.
Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
God said that on the day, that very day, they would surely die.
Genesis 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Why did Adam live so long then? Is this a contradiction? Some say so, but there is no contradiction. Man was a three part being of body, soul, and spirit. Which part of man died that day? Not his body or soul, that's for sure. So which part died? Man died spiritually, he lost his spirit, he lost his connection with God. With only body and soul, man became no better than an animal. He was no longer whole. That wasn't the only consequence either. Man lost his job, and the earth found itself under new management, under a new lord. It was at this point that the devil became the god of this world.
Interestingly, there are only two records in the bible where the devil confronted human beings personally face to face. Eve was one, Jesus Christ was the other. We have seen how the devil took Eve down because she didn't keep the word clear in her mind. Let's see how Jesus Christ fared.
Luke 4:1-3 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
Do you remember how the devil first approached Eve? That's right, he tried to instil a doubt in her mind regarding what the word said. Here he goes again, using the same tactic thousands of years later, only this time he is trying it with Jesus Christ. If thou be the Son of God!
Luke 4:3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
His approach was designed to instil questions regarding the word and who Jesus Christ was as the son of God. In that regards it mirrored the approach made to Eve. Jesus Christ was the son of God. The devil approached with an arrogant if you are the son of God. However, unlike Eve, Jesus Christ had a clear, precise, and accurate understanding of the scriptures. He knew who he was.
There is a pattern here and much we can learn from it. If the devil feels this method of attack so effective that he would employ it with both Eve and Jesus Christ, do you think he might perhaps try it on us? Of course he does. For example, do we always feel worthy to stand before God? If not, why not? The word says we are holy and without blame before him in love, and that we are lovely and acceptable. That is what the word says. Do we hold onto that when the world attempts to make us feel less than worthy? Or do we cave in to the seductive sweet empty words of the world? The word in our minds is constantly under attack from the world. Jesus Christ wasn't fooled though.
Luke 4:4
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Jesus Christ responded by quoting a short scripture, which isn't a particularly difficult scripture to memorise. In fact, it would only take a few seconds to learn by heart. However, consider that Jesus Christ did not know beforehand how the devil was going to approach him. He could have been approached in any one of a thousand different ways, so his having the right scripture memorised for that particular attack implies that his depth of knowledge of the scriptures was astonishing. That he had the right scripture in his mind, and could select it to counter the attack without having to run home for his bible and his concordance is testament to the fact that he studied the scriptures and memorised them to the point he had made the word his own. The more we understand this, the more we will understand the importance of the renewed mind, and the more we will comprehend what it takes to stand against the spiritual darkness of this world and prevail.
Also note Jesus Christ's respect for Lucifer. He didn't bad mouth him, he didn't tell him to fuck off, he didn't strut around him beating his chest and bragging about who he was as God's son. Jesus Christ knew who the devil was and held him in utmost respect, putting all his trust in God to keep him protected. That's a good example to follow. We must never get too big for our boots when dealing with devil spirits. We always put our trust in God and his word.
Luke 4:5-8
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Jesus Christ again had the right scripture at the right time to defeat this second attack, and again it is one short scripture that is easy to memorise. Look at the depth of his knowledge to be able to have in his mind the right scripture at the point of attack so he could use it. Unlike Eve, he did not add words, omit words, or change words, he quoted scripture accurately and precisely. The spoken word is powerful.
Eve's retemory verses were not very difficult. She could have kept the word in her mind if she had wanted to. She had become hazy on the details because she obviously did not keep her mind clearly in the word. Whenever man loses the word, he loses everything.
By the way, you would not believe how much pertinent and relevant 21st Century truth is documented here. The devil offered Jesus Christ the glory of the world with all its power, or in other words, he offered him the presidency of a one world government. The devil was the power behind the governments and kingdoms of Christ's time, and to whomsoever he willed, he gave it. Do you think then that perhaps it is feasible that the powers behind one world governance in the 21st Century could be from the same source?
You know, Jesus Christ's response is amazing. He did not scoff at the devil or laugh at his claim. He knew the devil was telling the truth - he does have control of the systems of the world. Jesus Christ did not argue the point. In Genesis, Adam and Eve were given dominion of the earth.
Genesis 1:27,28
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Here in Luke, the devil told Jesus that all that authority, that dominion over the earth, had been delivered, or handed to him. That's exactly what happened back in Genesis when man fell.
Luke 4:6
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
The devil tricked Adam and Eve out of what was theirs and took it from them. Adam and Eve gave that authority to the devil when they disobeyed God. In Genesis, man had the authority and dominion of the world - he was Lord of the earth - but when man fell, that authority was transferred to the devil. In this regards it is interesting to note that the bible talks of two gods - the true God, the Creator, and another god, the god of this world.
2 Corinthians 4:3,4
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Any guesses who the god of this world is? That's right, the devil. He became the god of this world when man fell, when the world was delivered to him. Man had been the Lord of the earth, and when man lost everything, the devil took control. That is who runs the world today, that is who the god of this world is.
Jesus Christ recognised this, but he was not seduced by it. Think about it. It isn't everyday you are offered the presidency of a one world government. Rather than dream about palaces, fleets of Mercedes chariots, and pretty girls pandering to his every whim as be pranced around the world as its leader, Jesus Christ went to the scriptures and rejected that paltry bribe. Jesus Christ turned down the same bribe that turns men like Al Gore, Tony Blair, and Bill Clinton into traitors, men who sell out their own countries and their own countrymen for promises of power and authority in the new world order. Men like them see themselves as that president of a one world government, and they sell us out in their lust for it. Thankfully, Jesus Christ turned it down. The devil was not quite finished yet though.
Luke 4:9-11
And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Wow, look at this! The devil quoted scripture at Jesus Christ. Accurate scripture too. It's from Psalms.
Psalm 91:11,12 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
The devil knows the bible inside out. He has the whole thing memorised from start to finish. Every word. The only problem is, when he quotes it, it is out of context, and it is used to steal, to kill, and to destroy. Oh yes, the bible can be used to steal from people, kill them, and destroy them. Happens in churches all the time. Jesus Christ wasn't taken in by this deception. The bible does indeed say that God will protect our backs, that he is our protection, that is true.
Mark 16:18
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
There is a record in the book of Acts that illustrates this point, when a deadly snake bit the apostle Paul.
Acts 28:3-6 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
Psalm 91 and Mark 16:18 are true. However, the key to understanding the subtle slyness and seductive nature of this temptation is the word if. Mark 16:18 uses if in the context of if it is accidental. We don't dash our feet against stones deliberately, do we? Paul did not see the snake coming, did he? He didn't stick his hand out there and deliberately let the snake bite him just to see if the word was true, did he? That would be like jumping off a cliff (or the pinnacle of a temple) to see if God will protect you when you hit the bottom. No, he will not. If you are going to be that stupid, you are not going to live for very long. If you accidentally stumble, yes, God can be there for you, but not if you are going to deliberately harm yourself just to see if he is going to save you. That would be tempting God. Again, Jesus Christ was not deceived, and he had the right scripture to counter the attack.
Luke 4:12,13
And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
During this intense face-to-face confrontation, three short memorised scriptures were sufficient for Jesus Christ to defeat the devil. The word really is that powerful. The only thing that can defeat the devil is the power of God through his word. If we have the word and apply it, we will live powerful and abundant lives. Eve went down and man lost everything because she did not keep the word clear in her mind. Consequently, man fell and the devil became the god of this world. Thankfully, that is not the end of the story.

The Earth "was" - 'became' - Without Form and Void

Smashed and Trashed
We now need to understand a few truths from Genesis.
Genesis 1:1,2
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The first word in the bible when it was originally written was the word God. God in the beginning created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form and void.
We are going to consider these words in verse 2, for there is much below the surface. When we perceive their depth, our perceptions of the world will never quite be the same again.
To begin, let us consider the words form and void which are tohu va bohu in the Hebrew. Tohu va bohu could literally be translated without form and void, but without understanding an important figure of speech at work we completely miss the whole point. The words tohu va bohu rhyme and this is intentional. It is the figure of speech paronomasia - rhyming words. To see the power in this figure of speech, consider the following:
He was extremely fit.
This is a literal sentence, which means exactly what it says - he was extremely fit. There is no figure of speech employed, and the sentence is a basic statement of rather bland fact. There is no real power to the words. However, if we were to say:
He was lean and mean.
All of a sudden, the sentence resonates with power. We have images of the extreme fitness of this guy, and even his mental attitude. We can feel his fitness. That is what a figure of speech does - it brings words to life, emphasising them in a very special way, giving them power and resonance.
Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form and void.
This is a poor translation of tohu va bohu, despite it being technically accurate. This is because the translators did not employ the figure of speech, and what we have is a rather bland statement of fact. Worse, this particular translation is misleading. If we were to translate these words employing the figure of speech that was intended, the verse develops a power that is almost overwhelming. Here is an attempt to translate the verse, employing the figure of speech paronomasia.
And the earth was smashed and trashed.
My goodness, sit down and consider those words! The earth was smashed and trashed? You mean it was not created that way? What happened? God created the heavens and the earth, and then it was smashed and trashed? Yes, that is precisely what the word is saying here. Whatever happened in Genesis 1:2 was so cataclysmic, the earth was totally without form and void, it could not support any form of life whatsoever, it was utterly smashed and trashed.
Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
To understand what happened to the earth back in Genesis 1:2, it is necessary to look at a few other scriptures to build some background.
The bible talks of three heavens and three earths, and it is important to note that there is no overlapping of time between them, nor are they spheres within spheres, or levels within levels, as is often taught by spiritualists and sorcerers. These are three distinctly different heavens and earths in three completely different periods of time.
2 Peter 3:5-7 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men.
Peter talks of the first heavens and earth, and the present heavens and earth. He also gives us information. Water destroyed the first heaven and earth, but this is not referring to the flood of Noah's day for that flood did not smash and trash the earth. When the earth was smashed and trashed in Genesis 1:2, there was no life for it could not support life. Peter also talks of a third heavens and earth coming in the future:
2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
God put the first heavens and earth together. That earth was smashed and trashed. God put it back together again, and this is the second heavens and earth in which we now live. However, Adam and Eve messed things up and sometime in the future there will be a new heavens and earth where everything will be put right again.
So how was the first earth smashed and trashed? We gain clues from around the word, some of which we've seen before.
Revelation 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
First of all, is this talking about a past event or a future event? The period of revelation, called the wrath in the bible, is still future, but there are references to past events throughout the book. For example, verses 1 and 2 inform us that both the sun and moon were visible in Virgo when Jesus Christ was born. This is clearly a reference to a past event. Some claim this war in heaven is still a future event and that the devil still resides in heaven, but consider these verses from Job and Peter which clearly teach that the devil is earthbound right now.
Job 1:7
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
If the devil is earthbound, then clearly the prophecy in Revelation refers to a past event. No one can possibly deny that by the time Adam and Eve came along the devil had already rebelled. He was clearly already God's enemy before the foundations of this second heavens and earth. It was this spiritual war in the heavens that is the most likely cause of the smashed heavens and earth in Genesis. Isaiah substantiates this. Just look at the I Wills in the following verses.
Isaiah 14:12-15
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God [the star, God]: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Lucifer, from Latin, means light bearer or brilliant one, illuminated one. Lucifer was second in command in heaven next to God. Each archangel had one third of the angels under their command. The angels, as we do, have freewill. Lucifer decided he wanted to be worshipped as God and committed treason by trying to usurp God and take his worship which started the war. Obviously God did not smash and trash his own earth, so we can safely conclude it was the devil who did it. Lucifer must be quite something if he felt he could take on God. Never underestimate him. We put our trust in God as our protection from him.
As an aside, here is another morsel of truth that enhances and adds light to the truth of the smashed and trashed earth of Genesis 1:2. After the flood of Noah's day, when the ark grounded and Noah and his family stepped back onto dry ground, God spoke to them:
Genesis 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
God told them to be fruitful and multiply and REPLENISH the earth. What does the word replenish mean? Here is a dictionary definition:
replenish -verb (used with object) to make full or complete again, as by supplying what is lacking, used up, etc.: to replenish one's stock of food.
In the case of Noah, this makes perfect sense. They were to replenish the earth because they were the only ones left. The earth had been populated, everyone apart from Noah and his family had drowned, and they were to repopulate, replenish the earth. Now look back at Genesis 1 when God spoke to Adam and Eve.
Genesis 1:27,28a So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and REPLENISH the earth, and subdue it...
God told Adam and Eve to replenish the earth. Intriguing stuff. See, the earth had been populated before Adam and Eve, before it was smashed and trashed in Genesis 1:2. Further, we can assume that it was the devil who did the smashing and trashing.
So, we have a smashed and trashed earth. There is no life. All is darkness and cold. That makes sense, because darkness and cold implies an absence of light and heat. The devil's realm is not hot, as some mistakenly believe, it is extremely cold.
Genesis 1:3-5
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Darkness can only exist in the absence of light. Turn on the light and there is no darkness.
Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a firmament [Hebrew - raqia] in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament [raqia], and divided the waters which were under the firmament [raqia] from the waters which were above the firmament [raqia]: and it was so.
And God called the firmament [raqia] Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
What is the firmament? Verse 8 tells us the firmament is heaven, or the universe. The word translated firmament here is raqia in Hebrew, which is more accurately translated expansion, and it refers to the universe. The firmament is the universe so read these verses again employing universe instead of firmament.
Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a universe in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the universe, and divided the waters which were under the universe from the waters which were above the universe: and it was so.
And God called the universe Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Heaven is the universe, which is anywhere above earth. Biblically, if you want to go to heaven, jump up and down. Every time your feet leave earth, you go to heaven. In Peter, we saw that the first earth was destroyed because it overflowed with water.
2 Peter 3:6
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
This is fascinating. By putting the second heavens and earth back into order, God divided the waters into two distinct bodies. The waters under the universe, refer to the waters on the smashed and trashed earth. These waters were separated from the waters above the universe. What is this saying? When the first heavens and earth were smashed and trashed, the entire planet earth was covered in water. These waters were then divided, separated, so that there was a universe between the waters on the earth and the waters above it. In other words, the universe does not go on forever, it is totally encased in water. You can picture it like a bubble in a sea, albeit a rather large bubble.
Some basic physics would not go astray here. In verse 3, God introduced light. Without light and, therefore heat, in what state is water? It is frozen. Incidentally, so is oxygen, nitrogen, and all other normally gaseous material. The water that smashed and trashed the first heavens and earth was, therefore, frozen. The atmosphere would have liquefied and frozen. In this regards, isn't it amazing to note then that all scientists and geologists agree that the last Ice Age ended less than 10,000 years ago, the same time the bible says Adam and Eve were formed, made and created. Now consider this verse from Job:
Job 38:30
The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
The word hid is the word hardened. These waters referred to in Job are hard like stone. Why? Because they are frozen. Total darkness is the absence of light and heat. Any guesses where the frozen face of the deep is? Yes, the frozen face of the deep refers to the waters above the universe. These waters are called in the bible, the deep, and its face is frozen.
Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
What about this first heaven and earth then? Well, we know it was around for a long time from the rocks and fossils we can study. T Rex? Stick him in the first heaven and earth, for that is when he lived and breathed. Stick all your dinosaurs in there. See how beautifully the rightly divided word fits with true science?
Scientists today search for a link between what they call prehistoric man and modern man - the missing link - but they cannot find it. The reason is simple - there isn't one. The world was smashed and trashed. The men that lived in the first heaven and earth did not survive or evolve into this second heaven and earth. The oldest bones of modern man date to less than 10,000 years ago, the same time the last ice age ended. There is no conflict with true science and the bible. True science can only corroborate and substantiate the truths recorded in the word. By the way, this truth negates the theory of evolution. Man and all the animals on earth today are less than 10,000 years old. All the older fossils belong to life in the first heaven and earth.
Any idea what keeps the frozen face of the deep from freezing the earth today? Ever wondered what the stars are up there for? Sure, for signs and seasons, and they look pretty, but they also have a job to do, they keep us protected from all that cold up there. On day one, God introduced light to the smashed and trashed heavens and earth. On day two, he separated the waters with the universe. Now we are into day three.
Genesis 1:9-13
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Note that God does not create anything here. Nor did he create anything on day one or day two. The earth already existed, and because it already existed, God did not have to create it. To create, biblically, means to bring into existence something that does not exist. Hence, there is no creating going on here. The heavens and the earth existed, so God just had to put it back together again after it was smashed and trashed.
On day three, dry land appeared and the seas were gathered into one place, which is a reference to there being one large land mass surrounded by one ocean. At this stage of earth's development, there were no islands or continents. There is no problem getting science to fit any of this. Any child can look at a globe of the world and see how South America fits into Africa, and how all the continents could literally be pushed together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Scientists and geologists have named this supercontinent Pangaea. The world has this to say about Pangaea.
Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed during the late Palaeozoic and early Mesozoic eras, forming approximately 300 million years ago. It began to break apart around 200 million years ago.
This is a monstrous lie. Pangaea broke up less than 10,000 years ago, and it happened suddenly, overnight, not over millions of years. The reason the world lies about when Pangaea broke apart is because they have no facts to back up their truths. It took a massive head on smash of continents to force the Himalayan Mountains into the sky. Perhaps honest scientists and geologists can put some stuff together now that makes sense.
Day three also sees plant life built back into the earth. The smashing and trashing of the first earth was so severe, no plant life of any kind survived, not even their seeds. The smashing and trashing was absolute, as emphasised by the figure of speech paronomasia. The earth was totally and utterly devoid of any form of life whatsoever, it was utterly smashed and trashed. Now day four.
Genesis 1:14-19
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven [the universe] to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
There are some amazing truths here. God made light on day one, didn't he? Sure he did.
Genesis 1:5
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Despite light being in existence since day one, the sun and the stars were not made until the fourth day. Light therefore does not originate from the sun or any of the stars. The sun and stars are merely transformers, power cells that convert light into useable energy that supports life on earth. The sun is not a source of light, because light existed before the sun was fired up. There is much below the surface here, but we cannot take the time in this work to delve into quantum physics. Suffice to mention that the same way you can use a microscope to look down into a completely new world at the cellular level, and then continue down into the atomic universe, you can zoom into God's word to find completely new dimensions of truth below the surface. There are vast astronomic and deep microscopic universes of perfection within God's word. Onto day five.
Genesis 1:20-23
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature [Hebrew: nephesh - soul] that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And God created great whales, and every living creature [nephesh - soul] that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
In verse 20, the word creature is translated from a Hebrew word with which we will become familiar. It is the word nephesh, which means soul. Let the waters bring forth abundantly living souls. In verse 21, the word creature is again the word nephesh and it should have been translated soul.
Note also the correct usage of the word create. This is only the second time this word has been used so far in Genesis. Soul life did not exist at this point, which is why God had to create it. He brought into existence something that did not exist in any form anywhere. Soul life is breath life. If something breathes, it has soul. Whales, birds, fish, dogs and cats have souls. Anything that breathes has a soul. This is when soul life was created, and once something has been created, it does not require creating again because it already exists. Remember that when we come to man.
Genesis 1:24-26
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature [nephesh - soul] after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
The animal and plant kingdoms were in place before man was formed, made, and created. However, man had something very special which no animal, fish or bird had, and that was spirit.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
The image of God is spirit, so when he created man in his own image, it means he created spirit within man. It was this spirit that set man above everything else, that was what made him special, that was what set him above the animal kingdom.
Genesis 1:28-30
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Man had dominion over all of God's creation. He had dominion and authority over the earth and everything in it. Man had complete authority, rule, and dominion. Man was the earth's CEO if you like, he was the boss, the Lord of the earth, and it was God who gave him that job, that responsibility. To finish off chapter one, notice that God states six times that what he had done was good, and then crowns it with a seventh usage of very good.
Genesis 1:4,10,12,18,21,25,31 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
When God calls something good six times and then crowns it with a seventh usage of very good, be assured that the earth was in good shape. The balance of nature was perfect, the ocean environment was perfect, the plant kingdom was perfect, the animal kingdom was perfect, the climate was perfect, and our human bodies and souls were perfect. Everything was in perfect balance and perfect harmony.
Even today, God's perfection can still be seen everywhere. How many birds are there in the world? Yet they are all distinct, not just in colour and appearance, but in voice and behaviour. Look at the artistry in their plumage. Listen to their voices. Does God understand flight? Look how beautifully suited and adapted birds are to their environments. Not only can birds fly, some of them swim, and some of them dive under water. This was all by design, not chance. There is intelligence behind creation, not chaos. Every sunset and every sunrise is a witness to the love and heart that God has for us. He made all this for us. Look around you, look within you, feel the love he has for you.
Ah, but if God made such a beautiful world, then why is it all such a mess today?
